About Us

Zaragoza Latina is a multidisciplinary project created in 2004, being organized and directed by the Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza and Zona de Obras, which works on the creation of an exchange and activity platform based on the Latin culture. In this way, Zaragoza becomes the focal point of the subject, developing a periodic offer of projects and artistic activities within an ongoing conceptual and programmatic framework.

Zaragoza Latina contributes to the creation of new cultural markets, promoting flows, exchanges, cooperation, and attendance, thus turning into a communication platform between social and cultural agents in Europe and the Americas. It is, therefore, a space linking that which is Latin with the rest of the world.

Zaragoza Latina operates over a broad territory, comprising Latin America, the Latin-influenced area of the United States (California, Texas, Chicago, New York), Spain and the Latin European countries (Portugal, Italy, France and Romania).

Zaragoza Latina has contents covering the fields of music, cinema, literature, plastic arts, performing arts, avant-gardes, social commitments and human rights. And all these by means of concerts, shows, exhibitions, workshops, courses, debates, etc.

This ambitious project is being developed within the framework of the international commitment undertaken in recent years by the Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza. Such commitment aims at an expansive local cultural policy which may contribute to the growth of the city in terms of symbolic density, while intending to intensify and consolidate Zaragoza’s Latin vocation.

And it is precisely the proposed interconnectivity of this project that allows us to exponentially multiply the contacts among cultures: our own and foreign ones, active and pasive, centripetal and symbiotic ones. Such interconnectivity enables the different cultures that are being absorbed by cities to become naturally amalgamated and draw sensitivities near.

The 2008 immediate horizon with the International Exhibition, the promising outlook for 2016 with the project of Zaragoza as European Capital of Culture and the active presence in Interlocal (Ibero-American Network of Cities for Culture) make Zaragoza Latina progress in an environment that is convinced of the role played by Culture in social and citizen development and, above all, of the huge importance it gains as binder of new citizen realities.
